GREAT SCOTT!
Third-year Jordan Scott captured the
first NCAA indoor field championship
for the men's and women's track and
field teams in Virginia history March 9
in Birmingham, Ala., winning the triple
jump with a leap of 55 feet and five
inches. He was the only competitor to
jump over 55 feet, clearing the mark
twice in the series.
The Portmore, Jamaica, native be-
came the first Cavalier to win an NCAA
indoor title since Henry Wynne's
1,500-meter victory in 2016 and also
is the first ACC male competitor to win
the indoor national title in the triple
jump. With Scott's win, the Cavaliers
have won a combined five NCAA indoor
and outdoor titles since 2016.
"I do not have the words to describe my
feeling for Jordan Scott," director of track
and field Bryan Fetzer said. "He embod-
ies our team principles, especially being
grateful. His best is yet to come."
Scott — who also won the ACC title in
the triple jump and earned all-confer-
ence accolades in the long jump with a
school-record leap of 24 feet and 10.5
inches — was named the ACC Men's
Indoor Field Performer of the Year for
his efforts. He also was tabbed as the
U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country
Coaches Association Southeast Region
Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, becom-
ing the first Cavalier to earn that honor
since Marcus Robinson in 2012.
