With the launch of the Annual Fund campaign, the end of winter sports, the thrill of spring sports competitions and the continued focus on the Master Plan fundraising, our staff is especially busy. The football team program has tremendous momentum for 2019 and we are looking forward to a successful spring. In February, we mailed 2019 Annual Fund Renewal packets to all VAF members who made a gift in 2018. If you haven't received your package, please contact our office. As always, our Annual Fund is a critical funding source for the Athletics Department and is the primary source of support for all scholarships for our student-athletes. This is once again an important year for our Annual Fundraising effort as the yearly tuition increases continue to outpace our Annual Fund growth. Making a pledge early in the year really helps us forecast our scholarship payment schedule and we encourage each of you to make a commitment in the spring. You can help us have a record year! Our staff often receives questions about how many donors we have in each annual giving level. Below provides a breakdown of our 2018 Annual Fund donors. In 2018, 26% of our donor base increased their contribution by 10%. We are grateful for this kind of support and hope many of you will do the same this year. As I mentioned in my last Cavalier Corner letter, we had a successful year in 2018 raising money for endowed scholarships. The University's Bicentennial Scholars match- ing funds provided a significant boost to our efforts and we still have matching funds available to apply to any new endowed scholarship commitments. We would like to max- imize the opportunity to grow our endowed scholarship program. If you have any interest in exploring this program, please contact our office. The first visible signs of the Master Plan are taking place with the construction fenc- ing around University Hall, Onesty Hall and the Cage. The asbestos abatement is pro- ceeding as scheduled and the demolition will begin in April. This is an exciting first step in the project. Fundraising is continuing in earnest as we strive to move quickly through the de- sign phase and into construction of the football practice fields in early 2020. Through March 1, 2019 the campaign has reached $13 million and we hope to exceed $25 million in commitments by December 1, 2019. This will allow the project to remain on schedule. We will continue to provide updates on the project through our website and our short video series entitled Here We Go. We hope you enjoy these features and are as excited about this project as we are. It will completely transform the UVA experience for our student-athletes and coaches. We have long enjoyed remarkable generosity from our donors, and we hope we can continue to count on your support both for the Annual Fund and the Master Plan. Sincerely, Dirk P.
