Toner Award Recently retired NC State director of athletics Debbie Yow has been selected as the 2019 recipient of the National Football Foundation John L. Toner Award, which recognizes "excellence in athletics administration." Yow is the first female recipient of the Toner Award, which will be handed out at the 62nd NFF Annual Awards Dinner Dec. 10 in New York City. Yow, who was the director of athletics at NC State from 2010-19, also was named the 2019 James J. Corbett Memorial Award recipient, earned a spot into the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Hall of Fame and will be honored as the 2018-19 Under Armour Athletics Director of the Year. Yow will also be honored at the College Football Hall of Fame — alongside former legendary NCSU wide receiver Torry Holt — next December. Elle Sutphin Joins Wolfpack Hoop's Class Of 2019 Pilot Mountain (N.C.) East Surry High forward Elle Sutphin will be graduating from high school in three years and will enroll at NC State a year early on Aug. 24. The former class of 2020 standout will graduate in early July, and has left the door open to redshirt if need be, but plans to make an impact as a freshman. The 6-3 Sutphin was ranked as the No. 10 power forward and No. 39 overall prospect in the class of 2020 by ESPN. She averaged 21.9 points and 9.2 rebounds per game last year for East Surry, which reached the NCHSAA 1A title game. The Winston-Salem Journal named her to its All- Northwest squad as one of the top 15 girls basket- ball players in the area regardless of class. Sutphin joins a decorated recruiting class led by McDonald's All-American Jakia Brown-Turner of Oxon Hill (Md.) Bishop McNamara, forward Jada Boyd of Petersburg (Va.) Appomattox County, power forward Camille Hobby of Jacksonville (Fla.) Nease High and point guard Kendal Moore of Fayetteville (N.C.) Pine Forest High. ACC Network To Show Women's Soccer And Volleyball Matches Four NC State women's soccer matches and three Wolfpack volleyball matches will be broadcast on the new ACC Network after its launch Aug. 22. Head coach Tim Santoro and the Wolfpack women's soccer team will play in televised matches against Furman Sept. 15, at Duke Sept. 22, at North Carolina Sept. 26 and versus Virginia Tech Oct. 13 on the ACC Network. The NCSU volleyball team will have its first TV game against North Carolina at Reynolds Coliseum Oct. 2. The Wolfpack will also play at Pittsburgh Oct. 20 on ESPNU and at Miami Nov. 15 on the ACC Network. Tyler McDonough Named Perfect Game Freshman All-American NC State freshman center fielder was named first-team Freshman All-Ameri- can by Perfect Game. McDonough was third on the Wolfpack with a .320 batting average, and notched five home runs, 47 runs batted and a team-high 10 stolen bases (in 12 attempts). He ranked third on the team with a .392 on-base percentage and was fourth with a .452 slugging percentage. McDonough, who didn't have an error, was named second-team All-ACC and became the 16th player in NCSU history to be named to the All-ACC Freshman squad. Collegiate Baseball also tabbed him as a Freshman All-American. I love playing for this school. I met my best friends this year.
