94 ■ THE WOLFPACKER FOOTBALL PREVIEW 2019 Doeren is intrigued by a new proposal from Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby, who suggests that all sports should force student-athletes to sit out a year, eliminat- ing the inconsistencies between the differ- ent sports and waivers approved in those that already require athletes to sit out a year. Players that lose a year of eligibility would be allowed to get it back if they graduate. "You're not punishing anybody," Do- eren noted. "Even if you have an ill family member, you can redshirt and go spend a bunch of time with that person and be there with them." Another change Doeren would suggest is allowing coaches who have had a transfer leave on the player's accord now get to add that scholarship to the 25-per-class limit. In other words, if a coach loses two play- ers to transfer, he'd be allowed to sign 27 instead of 25.
