22 SEPT. 23, 2019 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED THIRD QUARTER: NOTRE DAME 52-7 Top Moment: Almost identical to Davis' touchdown in the second quarter, except to the other side, Finke took a shovel pass on a sweep for a 54-yard touchdown with noth- ing but open field in front of him once he made his turn. That score at the 13:24 mark made it 45-7. Standout Performer: McKinley, who had zero catches his first three seasons, snared his second touch- down pass with a 20-yard jump ball reception from Book with 7:19 re- maining to make it 52-7. Stats: Notre Dame's 50 plays through three quarters — 25 passes and 25 runs — were good for 471 yards: 412 through the air and 59 on the ground. New Mexico's 60 plays accounted for 239 yards (126 rushing and 113 passing). Items: New Mexico punter Tyson Dyer picked up a first down on a rugby-style fake and then rushing for two yards on fourth-and-one from the New Mexico 34-yard line on the Lobos' second possession. But later in the drive they were unable to pick up a first down on a fourth-and- five at Notre Dame's 35-yard line … A 23-yard field goal attempt by New Mexico was fumbled on the snap and returned nine yards by sopho- more TaRiq Bracy to the Notre Dame 42-yard line with 3:26 left. Then on his first pass of the game, sophomore Phil Jurkovec lofted a 52-yard com- pletion to classmate Braden Lenzy on the "go" route to the New Mex- ico 6-yard line … The quarter ended with Notre Dame facing third-and- goal from its 19-yard line. FOURTH QUARTER: NOTRE DAME 66-14 Top Moments: First career touch- downs by sophomore running back C'Bo Flemister and sophomore wide receiver Braden Lenzy. On the first play of the fourth quar- ter, an illegal procedure by the Notre Dame offense left it third-and-goal from its 24. Jurkovec then scrambled 23 yards to the 1-yard line, and on fourth-and-goal Flemister bulled in for the score at 14:25. Freshman Harrison Leonard also converted his first career extra point attempt for a 59-7 advantage. Then with 7:14 left, Lenzy made a leaping grab of a bubble screen from freshman quarterback Brendon Clark, broke two tackles and eluded several others for a 22-yard score. Standout Performer: Lenzy also had a 14-yard sweep to go with 22- yard scoring reception from Clark, who added four carries for 24 yards. Stats: Notre Dame's 591 total yards (434 passing and 157 rushing) were the most since 710 during a 48-37 victory against Wake Forest in 2017. Items: New Mexico's Bobby Cole sprinted for a 34-yard touchdown for New Mexico at 6:26 to narrow the margin to 66-14. ✦ NM ND FIRST QUARTER ND Hamilton 34-yard interception return (Doerer kick) 10:09 0 7 SECOND QUARTER ND Book 1-yard run (Doerer kick) 11:47 0 14 Drive: 10 plays, 49 yards, 3:59 ND Davis 59-yard pass from Book (Doerer kick) 6:34 0 21 Drive: 1 play, 59 yards, 0:10 ND McKinley 65-yard pass from Book (Doerer kick) 3:21 0 28 Drive: 2 plays, 80 yards, 0:28 ND Claypool 37-yard pass from Book (Doerer kick) 1:50 0 35 Drive: 2 plays, 54 yards, 0:11 NM Carroll 47-yard run (Shelley kick) 0:29 7 35 Drive: 5 plays, 75 yards, 1:21 ND Doerer 36-yard field goal 0:00 7 38 Drive: 4 plays, 46 yards, 0:29 THIRD QUARTER ND Finke 54-yard pass from Book (Doerer kick) 13:24 7 45 Drive: 2 plays, 60 yards, 0:39 ND McKinley 20-yard pass from Book (Doerer kick) 7:19 7 52 Drive: 6 plays, 65 yards, 1:58 FOURTH QUARTER ND Flemister 1-yard run (Leonard kick) 14:25 7 59 Drive: 9 plays, 58 yards, 4:01 ND Lenzy 22-yard pass from Clark (Leonard kick) 7:14 7 66 Drive: 10 plays, 88 yards, 3:49 NM Cole 37-yard run (Shelley kick) 6:26 14 66 Drive: 2 plays, 75 yards, 0:48 NM ND Total First Downs 22 25 Rushing 11 9 Passing 7 12 Penalty 4 4 Rushing Attempts 46 38 Yards Gained Rushing 260 188 Yards Lost Rushing 48 31 Net Yards Rushing 212 157 Net Yards Passing 151 434 Passes Attempted 29 27 Passes Completed 10 17 Had Intercepted 3 0 Percent Completion 34.5% 63.0% Yards Per Attempt 5.2 16.1 Yards Per Completion 15.1 25.5 Total Offensive Plays 75 65 Total Net Yards 363 591 Average Gain Per Play 4.8 9.1 Fumbles: No.-Lost 1-1 0-0 Penalties: No.-Yards 5-39 7-53 Punts: No.-Yards 6-279 4-163 Average Per Punt 46.5 40.8 Average Net Punt 40.3 40.2 Punt Returns: No.-Yards 2-2 2-17 Kickoff Returns: No.-Yards 2-30 2-64 Interception Returns: No.-Yards 0-0 3-36 Fumble Returns: No.-Yards 0-0 1-9 Miscellaneous Yards 0 0 Possession Time 35:06 24:54 Third-Down Conversions 4-18 1-10 Percentage 22.2% 10.0% Fourth-Down Conversions 1-3 5-5 Percentage 33.3% 100.0% Sacks By: No.-Yards 1-7 0-0 NOTRE DAME 66, NEW MEXICO 14 Sept. 14, 2019 ✦ Attendance: 77,622 Notre Dame Stadium ✦ South Bend, Ind.
