34 NOV. 9, 2019 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED With a season-long completion of 44 yards, Harris has been unable to hit many big plays this season. He is averaging only 187.5 passing yards per game and his 10.0 yards per completion and 6.1 yards per pass attempt flirt with the worst in the country. Harris has 13 touchdown passes and seven inter- ceptions. The already steady Irish pass defense received an artificial statistical boost against Michigan by holding the Wolverines to 134 passing yards. Of course, considering Michigan gained those yards on only eight completions — 16.8 yards per grab — even that effort doesn't look terrific. Pass defense continues to be the strength of the Irish defense and should continue to be with no high- powered aerial attacks remaining on the regular-sea- son schedule. Through seven games, the Irish ranked 24th in passing yards allowed per game (186.4) and 37th in passing efficiency defense (120.31 rating). Advantage: Notre Dame NOTRE DAME RUNNING GAME VS. DUKE RUN DEFENSE At the risk of sounding repetitive, the Irish ground game was an area of steady improvement for several weeks until the trip to Michigan. With three consecutive rushing games of at least 100 yards, senior running back Tony Jones Jr. had estab- lished himself as the feature back and was coming off a career-high 176 yards against USC. Jones managed just 14 yards on eight attempts against Michigan before getting injured, while as a team Notre Dame tallied only 47 anemic yards on 31 carries in that game.
