michigan hockey Defensemen Sign With NHL Teams D efensemen Jon Merrill and Jacob Trouba combined for 14 goals and 26 assists in 2012-13. Both were eligible to return next season — Merrill for his senior year and Trouba for his sophomore campaign — but instead have signed contacts with their parent NHL teams, voiding the rest of their collegiate careers. Merrill signed with the New Jersey Devils March  27, while Trouba joined the Winnipeg Jets April 2.
