It helps that he throws such a catchable ball with a tight spiral, Hoke said. Great quarterback play is paramount to the West Coast/pro-style offense Hoke wants to run, and it helps to have a go-to receiver, Gardner said — especially one with whom he's so close. "I've been throwing to Gallon since I came to school. Even when I was playing receiver, we threw every day," Gardner said. "I have a really comfortable relationship with Gallon. He's my best friend." The offense hasn't changed much since last year, either, when Gallon emerged as the leading receiver. When Gardner took over, play action and the passing game were a big part of the offense. Borges still wants to "run the ball down their throat and throw when they're not expecting us to," Gardner said of facing defenses, and they should have the weapons all around to do it.
