fan forum NCAA Tournament begins. Aren't you glad we didn't draw Florida Gulf Coast? The Irish once drew top recruits like Austin Carr and Adrian Dantley, and competed at the highest level. Here's hoping we can do it once again. And do it, by the way, while keeping in mind that the school colors are blue and gold and not some "pukey" version of lime green. Tom Derengoski '70 Lansing, Mich. Seeing Red Over The Green Where in the heck did the new and ugly basketball uniforms come from? Have we gone mad? Because some other institutions changed, must we be dumb enough to follow? They are an abomination to say the least. Why would we bring Notre Dame down to such a level? Have we lost all our pride? What in the hell is wrong with Blue, Gold and White? Jerry Whelan Ewing N.J. From The WebSite Fighting Irish head coach Brian Kelly indicated last August that FieldTurf will be coming to Notre Dame Stadium soon. However, he was quickly muzzled on that topic, and school vice president/director of athletics Jack Swarbrick noted this spring that there would be no FieldTurf at Notre Dame in 2013 — and nothing in the way of a Jumbotron, either. That raised the usual amount of debate on BlueandGold.com. Here was a small sampling of several dozen responses: Indyron: How about all those that despise Jumbotrons get rid of their HD televisions and listen to games on radio like "the good ol' days"? As a fan who loves ND and truly enjoys the special feel of tradition at the games, bring on the Jumbotron! NDguy7: Interlocking ND at midfield is what is important to me. I'm also for the FieldTurf and Jumbotron. Blueeagle: The present football field looks like a high school football practice field — devoid of identification, ordinary and uninspiring. Our soccer and other athletic fields at Notre Dame all have an ND interlocking logo at midfield. Every college football team proudly displays their logos at midfield and end zone. FieldTurf will not only get rid of all the grass upkeep but will enable the logos to permanently be positioned on the field of play, and not have to put up with cow pasture appearance which occurs after a few home games. We possess one of the greatest brand names in all of sports. Let's display it! Naplescarpenter: Football was meant to be played on natural grass. Nuff said. Plus, that is very hallowed turf. SBS1980: It's important to keep the "neutral" field vibe. We do not want our opponents to feel unwelcome or in the least bit intimidated. Dpfenny: I would agree a Jumbotron would enhance the game-day experience. I am not sure how FieldTurf would. Every high school in my area has FieldTurf. I would much rather see a game on Notre Dame's natural grass. CoachClancy: I'm happy about that. Football was meant to be played outside on real grass. And for those who need a Jumbotron to be "entertained" while "watching" the game, you can always play with your cell phones.
