Tanner saw his '93 team as the natural progression for a program that had gone to the final game of a 1991 NCAA regional, the 1992 ACC championship and a top-10 ranking most of the 1993 season. But the pitching staff was not deep enough to survive the labyrinth of the ACC Tournament, which was then played at Greenville (S.C.) Memorial Stadium, and its odd double-elimination format at the time. On the final day of the tournament, the second-seeded Pack was forced to play both Florida State and Clemson, which practically considered the contest a home game. Harvey, pitching on three days' rest, put the Pack in the championship game, combining with Allen for a 5-1 victory and his second win of the season against the Seminoles. Senior, pitching on two days' rest, quieted the crowd and put the Pack in position to win by holding the Tigers to just three runs and six hits in the title game's first seven innings. With six outs to go, the Pack held a 7-3 lead against the Tigers. Clemson rallied off Allen, who had posted 12 saves on the season, but was unable to finish off his second game of the day. With one out in the eighth, the Tigers had tied the game at 7-7 and loaded the bases for shortstop Jeff Morris, who had hit only one home run in his career at that 72  ■  the wolfpacker 70-72-73.Pack Past.indd 72 4/30/13 4:38 PM
