www.BLUEANDGOLD.com OCT. 17, 2020 13 UNDER THE DOME ✦ GIMME FIVE With a scheduled game against Florida State Oct. 10, Notre Dame has an opportunity to cut into the 6-3 lead the Seminoles have in this se- ries, which began in 1981 with a 19-13 FSU win. Since the start of the Knute Rockne era in 1918, Florida State is one of five Football Bowl Subdivi- sion schools that have a plus-two advantage on the Fighting Irish in their meetings — and joins Georgia as the only one at plus-three. The Seminoles even held a 6-2 advantage until losing 42-13 at Notre Dame in 2018. The two teams meet again at Tallahassee to open the 2021 season (Sunday, Sept. 5). Here are the five schools since 1918 to have that plus-two lead on the Irish: School Record 1. Georgia 3-0 2. Florida State 6-3 3. Ohio State 4-2 4. Clemson 3-1 5. Oregon State 2-0 Nebraska (8-7-1) and North Carolina State (2- 1) are two other Power Five teams that hold a series edge versus Notre Dame. CHARTING THE IRISH CONFERENCE SUPREMACY? Notre Dame and Florida State have had some epic battles against one another over the years, but this past weekend's game marked only the 10th time the two schools have faced off. The Fighting Irish have played more games against five other current ACC mem- bers. No. 1 on the list is the Pittsburgh Panthers, who have squared off with Notre Dame on the gridiron 71 times. Next is Georgia Tech (35 games), fol- lowed by Miami (27), Boston College (24) and North Caro- lina (20). The Fighting Irish have faced each of the other 10 current ACC schools 10 or fewer times, and only had a losing record against three of them: Florida State (3-6 entering their Oct. 10 matchup), Clemson (1-3) and North Carolina State (1-2).
