30 OCT. 17, 2020 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED Brian Kelly said. "Our defense did not have their 'A' game today. A lot of it has to do with a combination of a really good player in Travis. I thought he played extremely well. They had a good scheme for him that made it difficult for us in terms of making some adjustments." Travis' dual-threat ability allowed FSU to incorporate quarterback runs. The Seminoles used zone reads and option runs to attack Notre Dame's defense. Too often, the Irish found themselves biting too hard on a fake or an option. Missed tackles and sus- pect angles popped up. Travis ran for 96 of his team's 153 yards, and his total jumps to 108 when removing the two sacks he took. "He's a great player," Notre Dame junior linebacker Bo Bauer said. "They used their skills to try to take advantage of opportunities, and I think it just came down to the pur- suit, just the will at the end of the game there to stop the ball and be who we are, match our personality and stick to our process." Asked afterward about the defense, Kelly was un- surprised about its ups and downs. He cited the effects of a long layoff, which he said weren't all rust, but ag- gressive preparation during the week helped make up for lost time. "We had a long week of practice," Kelly said. "We had to push them hard this week. … It wasn't ideal in terms of optimal game readiness, if you will. We were a little tired, but we had to do it to get them game ready. "You could see there was a little bit of fatigue defensively. We were fall- ing off some tackles." ✦ NOTRE DAME VS.
