Notre Dame 19 Rk. School Commits Rk. School Commits RECRUITING NOTES • With the news of Jahmir Smith leaving the Notre Dame football pro- gram and Jafar Armstrong moving to wide receiver, the Irish staff decided to offer another running back recruit in the 2021 class to potentially pair with Metairie (La.) Rummel's Logan Diggs, the No. 21 prospect nationally at his position per Rivals. On Nov. 9, Notre Dame running backs coach Lance Taylor offered San Diego Samuel F.B. Morse's Byron Cardwell, who Rivals ranks as the coun- try's No. 13 running back and No. 234 overall prospect. Cal, Florida, Florida State, Texas A&M, UCLA and USC are among the schools also recruiting Cardwell. The 6-0, 200-pounder told Blue & Gold Illustrated that he plans to skip the December signing period and ink with a program in February. Notre Dame is also considering offering Montvale (N.J.) St. Joseph's Audric Estime, who is listed as the No. 10 running back and No. 215 over- all player nationally by Rivals, and is still after longtime target Donovan Edwards from West Bloomfield (Mich.) High. Rivals ranks Edwards as America's No. 2 running back and No. 65 overall prospect. • CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd reported on Nov. 11 that the NCAA will extend its dead period through April 15. It was previously set to run through the end of the 2020 calendar year. The dead period does not allow recruits to take recruiting visits, nor can college coaches hit the road to see prospec- tive student-athletes. If Dodd's report is accurate, prospects in the 2021 class will not have had a single opportunity to take an official visit. The dead period began in March, which is before officials could take place. Any class of 2021 recruits hoping to visit Notre Dame before signing in De- cember or February will do so without meeting the coaching staff in person. • It came down to Clemson and Notre Dame for Greenville (S.C.) High's Collin Sadler, the nation's No. 12 offensive tackle and No. 87 overall recruit, but he picked the Tigers over the Fighting Irish on Nov. 2. Sadler visited Notre Dame last fall and received an offer from the Irish this past summer, but the in-state allure of playing for head coach Dabo Swinney and Clemson was too much to overcome. • Notre Dame's newest class of 2022 offer went out Nov. 6 to Ponchatoula (La.) High's Amorion Walker. Rivals ranks the 6-3, 170-pounder as a three- star talent and the No. 23 prospect from Louisiana. Notre Dame joined Arkansas, Florida State, Memphis, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and West Virginia on the wide receiver's offer sheet. — Mike Singer Notre Dame's latest offer in the 2021 class went out to San Diego Samuel F.B. Morse's Byron Cardwell, who Rivals ranks as the country's No. 13 running back and No. 234 overall prospect.
