michigan in the pros but I believe I'm capable of doing it." J.J. Putz Has Worked His Way Back From The Disabled List Former Michigan pitcher J.J. Putz hasn't regained his spot as Arizona's closer since returning from the disabled list June 29, but he's been pitching better and better. Putz lowered his ERA from 4.50 to 3.50 in the first two weeks of July and didn't allow an earned run from July 1 to the All-Star Game break in mid-July, a span of five appearances. "He's a work in progress right now," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson told MLB.com. "His velocity is good, his splitter is really good and he's keeping the ball down. He's coming along; he has worked well." Putz missed nearly two months with an elbow injury. He blew a save in his first appearance back, a July 1 loss to the New York Mets, but he hasn't allowed a hit since. His fastball continues to improve, consistently clocking around 93 miles per hour. Putz, 35, suffered a right elbow strain on May 7 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was 2-1 with five saves in nine chances and a 4.26 ERA in 14 games before his injury.   The NFL 'Offensive Weapon' Denard Robinson Signs With Jacksonville Former Michigan standout Denard Robinson signed a four-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Florida Times-Union reported, one that will pay him a $213,612 signing bonus and $458,403 per year. Robinson, a fifth-round draft pick, is listed as an "offensive weapon" for the Jaguars. Jacksonville general manager David Caldwell has talked about working Robinson at running back, in the slot and in the return game. NFL.com columnist Adam Schein lists Robinson as one of the league's most fascinating players this fall. "Yes, his position is OW, as in 'offensive weapon,'" Schein noted. "And that's not me getting cute — it's how the Jaguars list the rookie on their official roster. The moniker truly says it all. MLB Notes • Cleveland's Rich Hill stood 1-1 with a 6.08 ERA as of July 15, but the former Michigan standout has improved recently. He's notched two holds and a win in his three appearances prior to the All-Star Game break to lower his ERA from 6.57 to 6.08. Robinson
