  inside michigan athletics Michigan's Top Olympic Sports Performers Baseball's Jacob Cronenworth: A rookie in 2013, Cronenworth was named to the Baseball America Freshman All-America first team and was also recognized in the same capacity by Louisville Slugger and the National College Baseball Writers' Association. A third baseman, Croneworth hit .330 with 16 extrabase hits and 41 RBI. Also a relief pitcher, he had seven saves, a 1.93 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings pitched for the Wolverines this past season. Women's golf's Alyssa Shimel: A senior this fall, Shimel carded a 4-over-par 76 at the U-M Golf Course July 8 to earn an invitation to the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship Aug. 5-11 in Charleston, S.C. A semifinalist at the Women's Ohio Amateur Championships in late June, Shimmel has started 30 tournaments during her three-year career at Michigan, averaging 78.6 strokes per round with four top-20 individual performances. Men's gymnastics' Sam Mikulak: A three-time national champion as a junior in 2013, Mikulak earned gold and bronze medals at the Anadaia World Challenge Cup June 24. He placed third on the floor exercise with a score of 15.100 and then captured first with a dominating score of 15.275 — 0.675 better than the runner-up — on the high bar. Mikulak also placed fourth on parallel bars and seventh on vault in an event featuring 170 athletes from 33 countries. Field hockey's Ainsley McCallister: After sitting out her junior year in 2012 with an injury, McCallister has returned to form, earning a roster spot with the U.S. team for the Junior World Cup July 27-Aug. 4 in Monchengladbach, Germany. The event is considered the elite international competition for players under 21. Already voted a team captain for 2013, McCallister started 22 games at midfield in 2011. Softball's Sierra Lawrence: Playing alongside classmate Sierra Romero, Lawrence helped Team USA to a silver medal at the International Softball Federation Junior World Championships July 8. A first-team All-Big Ten honoree as a freshman in 2013, Lawrence saw time in left field and at designated hitter Team USA, batting .300 with two doubles, two RBI and four runs scored.
