JUNE / JULY 2022 THE WOLVERINE 13   INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS One of Michigan's most important players, Jaedan Brown was one of just two Wolverines to earn All-Big Ten honors in the spring of 2022. She also was named MVP of the Big Ten Tournament after leading the program to its fourth confer- ence title since 2015. The former top-five recruit nationally paced U-M in wins with a 30-11 singles mark. She also went 20-15 on the doubles court, going 13-8 in dual matches. Here are some facts about Brown that you may not have known: Best Aspect Of Being From Granger, Ind.: "Living so close to Notre Dame. I loved growing up in a college town." Nickname: "The team and my other friends call me 'Jae Bae.'" Favorite Restaurant In Ann Arbor: "Pizza Bob's. I love it." Best Meal She Can Cook By Herself: "I make a really good plate of nachos." Favorite Professional Athlete: "My dad [former U-M and NFL defensive back Corwin Brown]. Watching his highlights is pretty cool for me. And also hearing what he has to say about being a professional athlete is cool and has inspired me to work hard." Sport She Enjoys Playing Besides Tennis: "I used to play softball. If I could've kept both going, I would [still want to play] softball." Favorite TV Show: "'Money Heist,' on Netflix." Favorite Movie: "Harry Potter — the whole series." Why She Chose Michigan: "The best advice that I got in recruiting is to go where the people are the best and where you feel like home. I got along with the coaches so well, and seeing them interact with the team, they just seemed like a super positive program and something I wanted to be a part of. The people, the team and the facilities — a combination of everything — seemed perfect for me." What She Hopes To Do After Michigan: "I'm studying BCN, which is biopsychology, cognition and neuroscience. I would like to be a neuropsychologist, but I'm definitely keeping college coaching kind of in my back pocket. I think that would be so fun, and seeing my coaches work together every day makes me want to be them." Favorite Memory At Michigan: "When we beat Ohio State in football. Storming the field, especially growing up a Michigan fan and not seeing them beat them in so long, that was a ton of fun and one of the happiest days I've ever seen in Ann Arbor." Overall Experience At Michigan: "I had super high expec- tations coming into Michigan, just because my family has all been there and they've all loved it, so I came in expecting it to be an amazing experience — and it has been. The thing that has surprised me most is there are people who will sup- port you everywhere you go." — Clayton Sayfie Michigan football added a pair of first-round selections to its storied NFL Draft history on the night of April 28 with defensive end Aidan Hutchinson (No. 2 overall, Detroit Lions) and safety Daxton Hill (31st overall, Cincinnati Bengals) becoming the 50th and 51st first-round selections in program his- tory. Hutchinson and Hill raised head coach Jim Harbaugh's total to eight Wolverine players to be drafted in the first round under his tutelage. Hutchinson became the Wolverines' fourth defensive end selected in the first round in the last six drafts, joining Kwity Paye (2021), Rashan Gary (2019) and Taco Charlton (2017). Hill is the second U-M defensive back selected in the first round under Har- baugh, putting him alongside safety Jabrill Peppers (2017). T h e o t h e r H a r b a u g h - e ra f i rs t - rounders include linebacker Devin Bush, the 10th overall pick in 2019 and center Cesar Ruiz, the 24th pick in 2020. — Anthony Broome In 2022, Brown became the 15th Wolverine in history to crack the 30-win singles barrier in a season.
