Basketball Pushing Hard On Several Senior Targets Piedmont (Ala.) Hokes Bluff High senior center Isaac Haas has narrowed his list to five schools, with Virginia making the cut. The 7-0, 275-pound Haas reduced his list down to Virginia, UAB, Purdue, Texas A&M and Wake Forest in mid-July, and is in the process of setting up official visits. He plans to officially visit UAB, Purdue and Texas A&M for sure, and is still setting up dates for Virginia and Wake Forest. Rivals.com ranks Haas the No. 58 overall player in the country in the class of 2014, and he has accumulated 14 scholarship offers. Haas averaged a modest 2.7 points and 2.9 rebounds in 8.9 minutes per game while playing with the 7-11 Alabama Challenge in Nike Elite Youth Basketball League contests this summer. He then played well in the paint at the NBPA Camp June 12-15, which took place at UVa. He averaged 6.0 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in approximately 20 minutes of playing time in his five games. Haas is one of a litany of big men in the class of 2014 that Virginia is pursuing. The Cavaliers hope to bolster the depth behind secondyear post players Mike Tobey and Anthony Gill and third-year Darrion Atkins, with Akil Mitchell moving on after this season. Power forward Angel Delgado, who is transferring to Huntington (W.Va.) Prep for his last season, continues to have his recruitment take off after a strong July. The physical 6-9, 216-pounder is ranked No. 54 overall in the nation, and has offers from Virginia, Louisville, Florida State, Seton Hall and Dayton, plus interest from Kentucky. The Wildcats would be considered the heavy favorite to land the Dominican Republic native if they offer. Two Arizona post players are continuing to list the Cavaliers. Mesa Mountain View High center Payton Dastrup, who is ranked No. 77 overall in the country by Rivals.com, has earned at least 20 scholarship offers, including one from UVa. The 6-9, 218-pounder plans on taking a two-year Mormon mission following high school, which would push him into the class of 2016. Unranked Rivals.com three-star prospect Michael Humphrey of Phoenix Sunnyslope High, who is a 6-10, 205-pounder, has seen his recruitment explode during the July evaluation period. Virginia, Arizona, Indiana, Iowa, Oklahoma State, Texas, UCLA, USC and Vanderbilt are some of his 15 scholarship offers. Center/power forward Martin Geben of Hagerstown (Md.) St. Maria Goretti is originally from Lithuania. The 6-9, 220-pounder is ranked No. 100 overall in the nation in the class of 2014, and Virginia, Maryland, Notre Dame and Villanova are some of the 18 colleges that have Piedmont (Ala.)
