OCTOBER 2022 THE WOLVERINE 37   MICHIGAN FOOTBALL Okie grabbed a sack in his first snap in a U-M uniform in a 51-7 win over Colorado State on Sept. 3. His speed off the snap and ability to get into the backfield with ease opened eyes and spoke to his poten- tial in this system. "Good [so far]," head coach Jim Har- baugh said upon his arrival. "He's been a great teammate, and I look forward to seeing what he can do this coming season. "There are some outstanding assets he can bring to the team. No man knows the future, but I think it looks very good and bright for Eyabi." Michigan teammates have been helping Okie get up to speed to ensure a smooth transition. Junior edge Jaylen Harrell has been among the players embracing his addition to the locker room. "That's my guy," Harrell said. "We're always chopping it up, learning how we can get these tackles off balance, setup moves, stuff like that. We're always talk- ing — and he came here for a reason, as you guys saw, first snap sack. He didn't come here to play around." Defensive coordinator Jesse Minter dis- cussed what he has seen from the former five-star recruit. There is plenty of room for his role at Michigan to continue to ex- pand. "He's bought into what we're trying to do," said Minter. "He's a guy with a lot of physical tools and a high ceiling. "He's still learning, and we told him we want to try to feed him a little bit more each week. "It was like, 'Hey, let's throw them in there on the next third down.' And the rest was history for him. It was good to get him in there more in the second half on normal downs and kind of get a feel for him playing the run and playing a normal style of play. He's a guy that we can utilize as a pass rusher as we go." U-M knows it cannot replace the 25 sacks it lost from Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo from one or two players. It has to be a group effort, and Okie adds to that. "The great thing is that there are guys here that can fill those roles," defensive line coach Mike Elston told the media. "They're going to look different; they're going to be different. There are going to be opportunities for guys to get the produc- tion differently. "We're doing some different things up front to create some disruption and pres- sure. Hopefully, that continues to carry on, and we'll continue to grow those things. "It's a huge challenge to replace the No. 2 overall draft pick, another first-rounder and an early second-rounder. I think that as a staff, we've handled it well. As a group, the guys understand the expecta- tions, and they've handled it well." — Anthony Broome OFFENSE Pos. No. Name Ht. Wt. Yr. QB 9 J.J.
