CAL SET With 54 days remaining until Notre Dame of- ficially tips off the 2022-23 women's basketball season, the ACC released conference schedules for all of its member institutions. Two days later, the Irish finalized their slate with the announcement of a marquee non-conference matchup. The Fighting Irish have known they'll face North- ern Illinois in South Bend in the season opener Nov. 7 for quite some time. They also previously set non-conference games at Northwestern (Nov. 16), vs. Maryland (Dec. 1), vs. Connecticut (Dec. 4), at Lafayette (Dec. 8), vs. Merrimack (Dec. 10) and vs. Western Michigan (Dec. 21). Notre Dame plays two contests in the 2022 Goombay Splash in the Bahamas (American Nov. 24 and Arizona State Nov. 25 or 26). Now, they know who they'll go against and when in the slate of conference games. They also re- vealed the first edition of a yearly non-conference neutral site game. Notre Dame will play Cal Nov. 12 in St. Louis, the program's first Shamrock Classic game. It will be televised on NBC, marking the first women's college basketball game ever to be broadcast on the network. The Shamrock Classic is a homecoming for both programs' head coaches. Notre Dame's Niele Ivey and Cal's Charmin Smith are both St. Louis natives. Ivey won a state title at Cor Jesu Academy before playing at Notre Dame from 1997-2001. She was part of the Irish's 2001 NCAA title team, which clinched the championship in St. Louis with a win over Purdue. "This is a full circle moment to come back home to St. Louis where my basketball journey began," Ivey said in a release. "It's an overwhelming feeling to think about the positive impact this will have in my community and for our sport. I hope to con- tinue to inspire and empower the next generation of young leaders and athletes." The Irish's ACC slate starts Dec. 18 at Virginia Tech. — Patrick Engel and Tyler Horka MEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULE COMPLETE WITH RELEASE OF FULL 20-GAME ACC SLATE Notre Dame's full 2022-23 basketball schedule is out. The ACC released the 20-game slate for every team Sept. 13, completing the 31-game regular-season lineup for its 15 members. The Irish will play home-and-homes with Boston College, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Florida State, Syracuse and Wake Forest. They will face Miami, Louisville, Pitt and Virginia Tech at home only. Duke, Virginia, North Carolina State and Clemson are the road-only opponents. The ACC schedule begins Dec. 3 at home against Syracuse. The Irish will resume their non-conference slate for three games before another conference contest Dec. 21 at Florida State. ACC play resumes for good Dec. 30 or 31 when Miami visits Purcell Pavilion. Senior Day will be March 1 against Pitt. The regular season ends March 4 against Clemson. The ACC Tournament begins March 7. Notre Dame plays nine of its 11 non-conference games at home, starting with the Nov. 10 opener against Radford. All told, the Irish will play 19 games at home, 10 on the road and two at neutral sites.
