Commitment Updates Games played Sept. 16-17 unless otherwise noted. • Notre Dame lost a commitment Sept. 22 when Phoenix Pinnacle's Elijah Paige announced that he would be backing off his pledge. "I would like to thank the amazing staff at Notre Dame for the opportunity they offered and the time they spent recruiting me," Paige said in his statement. "This decision has been very difficult. After many prayers and conversations with my family, I have decided to decommit from the University of Notre Dame." Paige, who is listed as a three-star prospect and the nation's No. 34 offen- sive tackle by On3, originally picked the Fighting Irish June 10. In an interview with Blue & Gold Illustrated in late August, he said that he was happy with his decision and going strong with his commitment. However, USC was likely going to be the choice until Paige officially visited Notre Dame in early June, and the Trojans didn't let up on him after his Irish commitment. USC is now considered the favorite to eventually land Paige. Notre Dame still has four offensive line commits in its 2023 class — Rock Island (Ill.) Alleman's Charles Jagusah, Topeka (Kan.) Hayden's Joe Otting, Pfafftown (N.C.) Reagan's Sam Pendleton and Belmont (N.C.) South Point's Sullivan Absher. • Notre Dame hosted Hayward (Calif.) Tennyson's Taeshaun Lyons, the No. 19 wide receiver and No. 129 overall recruit nationally according to On3, for an official visit when the Irish knocked off Cal 24-17. "I liked the visit; it was really good," he said. "The people, the coaches, the whole atmosphere — everything stood out. The fans are so passionate, and that blew me away. You don't get fan bases out here that are that passionate. That's not something you see a lot." As much as the Notre Dame staff would have loved to secure Lyons' com- mitment while he was still on campus, they're going to have to continue to battle for him. "I plan on dropping a top eight schools list, and I think I might take one or two more official visits," he said. "I'm not really looking for any other schools to come in right now; I'm just looking at the schools looking at me." — Mike Singer Follow @MikeTSinger on Twitter for recruiting updates!
