NOVEMBER 2022 THE WOLVERINE 13   INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Michigan women's track junior Ziyah Holman is already an accomplished athlete, and she has a goal of becoming a national champion this coming season. A first-team All- American in 2021 (indoors, distance medley relay), she is the school record-holder at 400 meters outdoors (51.25) and indoors (52.55) and a two-time Big Ten champion. Here are some facts about Holman that you may not have known: Best Aspect Of Being From Prince George's County, Md.: "Prince George's County is one of the most affluent Af- rican American counties in the country, so it was really nice having my people around me all the time. It was just like a really nice community to be able to walk around, to build relationships with your neighbors, build relationships with the kids in the neighborhood." Favorite Restaurant In Ann Arbor: "I personally like Hop- Cat. I'm a big HopCat fan." Best Meal She Can Cook By Herself: "Homemade mashed potatoes, lemon roasted chicken and honey roasted Brus- sels sprouts." Favorite Professional Athlete: "I really enjoy watch- ing Serena Williams, and she's not even in my sport. I've just watched her story and I follow her on social media in the way that she balances being a tennis star and being a mother and being a woman in this time of day. It's crazy, because you think it's impossible, and she kind of made impossibility possible. I really value that from her, and she's just a great person. I actually know her husband pretty well, so I've gotten to meet her before." Sport She Enjoys Playing Besides Track: "Tumbling and beach volleyball." Favorite TV Show: "'All American' on Netflix." Favorite Movie: "'White Chicks' or 'Mean Girls.'" Why She Chose Michigan: "I wanted to have the best school for track, for education, for resources, for careers — all that stuff. Michigan fit a lot of those categories." What She Hopes To Do After Michigan: "I want to take the professional route and make money off running. I want to be able to have running support my lifestyle for about four years to make it through an Olympic cycle. After profes- sional, I want to go to law school and be a lawyer." Favorite Memory At Michigan: "I love traveling with the team in general. I think it's super fun in how our team bonds over traveling and the whole process of it. It's super fun. I just love traveling to the big meets, especially across the country to California and stuff." Overall Experience At Michigan: "I always tell myself, 'Anything worth having is not easy to attain.' It hasn't been easy. It's actually been pretty hard to balance everything that I have on my plate, from trying to be a great athlete, a great student, a social media influencer … I work for the football team, so I have a job … and trying to be great at all those things, it gets to you. But it's not easy to be the best, and I feel like my story is going to shape itself when I leave here, and I can be proud of that." — Clayton Sayfie Holman, a two-time Big Ten champion, is the school record-holder in the 400 meters outdoors (51.25) and indoors (52.55).
