NOVEMBER 2022 THE WOLVERINE 37 2022-23 BASKETBALL PREVIEW percent of his 3-point shots. He got lost too often on defense, however, and that's an area in which he'll need to continue to improve. Sophomore wing Isaiah Barnes, too, will get his opportunity, both at the 2 and the 3. He's come a long way and is start- ing to shoot the ball well, too. "They put the work in earlier in the summer," Howard said. "They've been in the gym in the spring and summer. Both have added weight and muscle. "Their games have improved in a lot of ways. Kobe got a chance to play and averaged 10 minutes a game last year. He's going to have a larger role this year. "Isaiah is just scratching the surface. You're going to see him this season. It's good just to know that we have a deeper team. We have an athletic, but young team." That youth movement includes a freshman in wing Jett Howard who will likely be a starter from the get-go. The younger of Juwan Howard's two sons on the roster, Jett Howard is a shooter and much more. He's proving he can get to the rim, improving on his defense, and —once again — going head-to-head with his older brother. "It's been great. Jett's a talented guy," Jace Howard said of his 6-foot-8 brother. "He's a great dude to be around. To be in a setting where we're both playing for a school that we love and a school that we grew up watching is pretty surreal. "He has a boatload of talent, and I've been able to teach him the game and little pointers. It's really fun to pick each other's brains and go at each other. We've been matched up a lot in practice." Baker, who averaged 4.5 points at Duke, and true freshman Lebanese forward Youssef Khayat, who Howard described as "the perfect two" to replace Caleb Houstan and Moussa Diabate (NBA), will also get their chances to impact. "They have been seamless with their transition, are great guys who are fun to coach, and want to be coached," he said. "That's the key, and that right there is go- ing to give them a chance." Freshman forward Gregg Glenn III, too, will have his chance. Overall, it's a deep team with an opportunity to keep the program's culture alive and strong … and to make another deep run in the tourna- ment. ❏ 2022-23 Michigan Men's Basketball Roster No. Name Position Height/Weight Class Hometown 0 Dug McDaniel G 5-11, 160 Fr.
