NOVEMBER 2022 THE WOLVERINE 59   BASKETBALL RECRUITING want to enjoy the college experience," Howard said. "I love that recruiting as- pect of it. It's fun. "I enjoy meeting people and under- standing who fits and who wants to get a beautiful college degree at the Univer- sity of Michigan." CLASS OF 2023 NOTES • Michigan hosted senior shooting guard George Washington III for the Oct. 8 weekend, and the visit report- edly went well. The former Ohio State pledge still has Dayton (his dad is an assistant for the Flyers' women's team) and Louisville high on his list and could take other visits. Wake Forest is up next, and the Day- ton Chaminade Julienne standout shooting guard (No. 134 nationally in the On3 rankings) hopes to see Louis- ville, too. Virginia is also on his list. Some compare the 6-2, 165-pounder to former Michigan guard Eli Brooks. • Five-star point guard Isaiah Col- lier (On3's No. 2 overall prospect na- tionally) out of Marietta (Ga.) Wheeler, meanwhile, will decide and announce Nov. 16. Most believe USC will be the pick, though Michigan is still in it. He visited Ann Arbor this summer. "I'm looking for a family program," he said. "I want to go somewhere I can grow as a man and get an education, too. I'll be looking closely at the school's system and how they run and play in the half-court. "I am going to look at the academics of each school; I want to finish school and get a degree and a master's, hope- fully. I want to go to a place that will let me play and give me the freedom to do me. "The system, the love, the coaches. I'm looking for a brotherhood, really. A family." • Zayden High (6-9 forward, No. 64 overall player in the country), a power forward out of Spring Branch, Texas, who currently plays high school ball at Compass Prep in Arizona, chose North Carolina over Michigan, Arkansas, Texas, Villanova and others. • Finally, four-star point guard El- marko Jackson chose Kansas over Mich- igan and several others. U-M was late to offer and didn't make his list of seven, even though he grew up a Michigan fan. He's the nephew of former U-M All- America cornerback Marlin Jackson. FIVE-STAR SOPHOMORE IS HIGHLY INTERESTED IN MICHIGAN Landing a Duke basketball legacy is a tall task, but Michigan has thrown a hat in the ring for one of the best. Cameron Boozer (6-8, 210) of Miami Columbus High, son of former Blue Devils and NBA standout Carlos Boozer, is one of the top sophomores in the country. He averaged 22.5 points and 12.2 re- bounds playing with the Nightrydas program on the Nike EYBL 15U circuit this summer and is now On3's No. 2 sophomore nationally in the 2025 class. "I definitely improved my shooting," Boozer said. "I worked on my jump shot all summer long. I think that's definitely why I took the biggest jump this year." He has a fraternal twin brother, Cayden, and the two could play to- gether. For now, though, he's the one picking up the offers. "Right now, I have offers from Duke, Michigan, Memphis, Miami, Florida State, Arkansas State and FIU," Boozer said. "I've only visited Florida State. "They are big on taking care of your responsibilities, like finishing work in the classroom. If you don't do that, then you're not going to get on the court. That was definitely something that I learned during my visit." He likes the Wolverines, too. If any- one can give Duke a run for its money, it's Michigan. "I know Juwan [Howard] is a good coach," he said. "He played in the league for a lot of years. He's a great mentor and a guy you can just take a lot from, listen to, and just improve on yourself and your game with." He could go straight to the NBA, too, but is thinking more about college right now, he said. Regardless, he has plenty of time to make his decision. Boozer is only 14 years old and just getting started. 2024 PROSPECT Michigan has offered another 2024 prospect in 6-8, 200-pound power forward Aiden Sherrell of Mt. Pleasant (Utah) Hillcrest Prep. The Wolverines are playing catch-up here, however, to Alabama, Michigan State and others. Memphis, Georgia, Indiana, Ohio State and Texas Tech are among his other offers, but Alabama "set the bar" on a recent visit. "It definitely is really high on my list," Sherrell said. "[When I think of Ala- bama], I think of getting guys to the next level. Their playing style is great for me. I definitely see myself thriving in their playing style." He's sure of only one other visit — Michigan State — giving Juwan Howard and Co. some work to do here. ❏ On The Web For regular reports on Michigan basketball recruiting plus videos of U-M commitments and targets visit TheWolverine.com.
