JUNE/JULY 2023 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 35 Carino definitely does not see Jack- son defending physical big men in the Big Ten. The key for the incoming Wol- verine to find success involves a re- turn to his former role at Seton Hall, he stressed. "If the goal is to bring him in off the bench as an instant offense guy as a wing, it could work," Carino said. "It worked at Seton Hall. He was good in that role. He helped them. "But if they intend to play him for any serious minutes at the four, I just don't see it." Jackson began his career at Mis- souri, where he spent a year averaging 2.9 points per game for the Tigers. His highlight came against Tennessee, when he scored 11. He then transferred to Se- ton Hall, experiencing the aforemen- tioned ups and downs in the Big East. Now, he'll return to his native Michi- gan for one more shot — or several, if the Wolverines are deep enough to plug him in as a mismatch three. "It requires a deep team to do that," Carino said. "It's very alluring when you get a 6-10 guy like that who can drain threes. He's also a good free throw shooter. If you can get him to do this he'll be dominant. "But after two years of watching him, I think he's just an odd piece. He's a 6-10 three who is closer to a two than he is a four, in the way he plays. "He really helped Seton Hall in 2021- 22. He was an asset to them, when used in that way. That was the proper role for him." ❏ JACKSON BY THE NUMBERS • 2022-23 (Seton Hall): Averaged 6.5 points and 2.2 rebounds per contest in 29 games for the Pirates as a senior … Missed the final three games of the season with an ankle injury … Shot 38 percent from three-point range in two seasons with the Pirates. • 2021-22 (Seton Hall): Averaged 6.8 points and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 39.5 per- cent from three and 86.8 percent from the charity stripe … Ranked fourth in the confer- ence in three-point field goal percentage. • 2020-21 (Seton Hall): Was scheduled to redshirt but was declared ineligible by the NCAA. • 2019-20 (Missouri): Averaged 2.9 points and 1.8 rebounds in 26 games played for the Tigers.
