1. Donovan Edwards at Ohio State — Michigan needed heroes to emerge in the OSU game after Corum's attempt to return from a knee injury against Illinois proved unsuccessful. The Buckeyes were hell-bent on stopping the run early, but the floodgates opened late in the game for the Michigan star weapon, who rushed 22 times for 216 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the 45-23 win. Edwards' 2 TD carries came on his last attempts of the day and went for 75 and 85 yards, respectively. His 85-yard touchdown was U-M's longest run from scrimmage since Denard Robinson had an 87-yard scoring dash in a win at Notre Dame in 2010. OSU was still in striking distance late, but Edwards and the Michigan offensive line combined to squash any hopes for a miracle comeback for the hated rivals in their own building. 2. Blake Corum vs. Maryland — Michigan caught a lot of heat for its nonconference schedule, which did not feature a Power Five opponent. The lopsided games allowed the Wolverines to empty the depth charts early but did not provide the starting players with a chance to play in a wire-to-wire contest. As a result, Michigan had some competitive rust to knock off in the Big Ten opener against Maryland, but Corum was there to set the pace and save the day in a 34-27 victory. Corum ran 30 times for 243 yards and 2 touchdowns, his longest rush coming on a 47-yard touchdown with 3:31 to go to help the Wolverines to a 34-19 lead. 3. J.J. McCarthy at Indiana — The TCU game may have produced McCarthy's gaudiest numbers of the 2022 campaign, but his performance at Indiana was the perfect blend of leadership and clutch play. The Wolverines were tied 10-10 at the half and may not have been in the game entirely emotionally after running backs coach Mike Hart collapsed on the sideline in the first half. Michigan needed its young quarterback to grow up a bit and pull the team out of a rut, and he was able to do it. He finished the day 28-for-36 passing for 304 yards with 3 touchdowns (all in the second half) and 1 interception. The Wolverines walked out of Bloomington with an emotional 31-10 victory, setting up a showdown of undefeated teams with Penn State the following week. Unanimous All-America running back Blake Corum shouldered a heavy load for U-M all season. His best individual effort came when he had 30 carries for a career-high 243 yards and 2 touchdowns in the 34-27 victory against Maryland.
