16 ■ THE WOLVERINE 2023 FOOTBALL PREVIEW MICHIGAN FOOTBALL 2 Teams have won multiple Big Ten championships during Harbaugh's tenure — Michigan (2) and Ohio State (4). Michigan State and Penn State each have one. 3 Unanimous All-Americans for Michigan during the Harbaugh era: run- ning back Blake Corum (2022), defensive end Aidan Hutchinson (2021) and linebacker Jabrill Peppers (2016). Twenty-five U-M players have earned that distinction all time. The Maize and Blue have had just seven since 2000, with none in an eight-year stretch from 2008-15. 4 Power Five programs have won eight or more regular-season games in every full-length season since Harbaugh started at U-M in 2015: Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Michigan. 6 Programs in the country have made back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances (began in 2014), with Michigan and Georgia join- ing that group this past season, having earned bids in both 2021 and '22. The Wolverines are one of seven schools to play in multiple CFPs. Harbaugh is the eighth coach to take his team to the playoffs more than once. 8 Times has a U-M head man been named Big Ten Coach of the Year, with Harbaugh winning in 2022. Only four Wolverines have been presented that honor: Harbaugh, Brady Hoke, Gary Moeller (twice) and Bo Schem- bechler (four times). The award is now named after Schembechler and former Ohio State coach Woody Hayes. 53 NFL Draft picks during Harbaugh's tenure (2015-23), includ- ing eight first-rounders. The Wolverines have had at least one first-round pick five straight years and in six of Harbaugh's eight drafts since 2016. Twenty-three Wolverines have been taken in the first 100 picks during that span. U-M has had at least one player selected at every position under the head coach: quarterback (1), running back (2), fullback (1), tight end (3), wide receiver (5), offensive line (10), defensive tackle (4), edge (10), linebacker (5), cornerback (5), safety (4), kicker (1), punter (1) and long snapper (1). 74 Wins in eight seasons under Harbaugh, includ- ing the shortened 2020 campaign (six games). That ranks seventh in the nation and second in the Big Ten (Ohio State; 90) since he was hired. Harbaugh ranks fourth among the 20 U-M head coaches in history, trailing Bo Schembechler (194), Fielding Yost (165) and Lloyd Carr (122). His .747 winning percentage also checks in fourth among those with more than 90 games coached. The Maize and Blue won just 46 games in the seven seasons prior to Har- baugh's arrival. — Clayton Sayfie Jim Harbaugh BY THE NUMBERS HARBAUGH'S COACHING RECORD 2004 San Diego 7-4 2005 San Diego 11-1 2006 San Diego 11-1 2007 Stanford 4-8 2008 Stanford 5-7 2009 Stanford 8-5 2010 Stanford 12-1 2011 San Francisco 49ers 13-3-1 2012 San Francisco 49ers 11-4 2013 San Francisco 49ers 12-4 2014 San Francisco 49ers 8-8 2015 Michigan 10-3 2016 Michigan 10-3 2017 Michigan 8-5 2018 Michigan 10-3 2019 Michigan 9-4 2020 Michigan 2-4 2021 Michigan 12-2 2022 Michigan 13-1 FCS 3 seasons 29-6 (.829) FBS 12 seasons 103-46 (.691) NFL 4 seasons 44-19-1 (.695) Total 19 seasons 176-71-1 (.715) PHOTO BY PER KJELDSEN
