4 CAVALIER CORNER Dear Cavalier Fans, Fall is such a great time of year in Charlottesville. Classes are back in session and our fall sports teams are back in action. We have enjoyed seeing many of you at tailgates, games, and other events and look forward to seeing many more of you throughout the season. Thank you for showing your support. As you may have heard, Kevin Miller will join the VAF as our new executive director. Kevin comes to us after more than six years as a se- nior administrator for the University of Georgia and The Georgia Bulldog Club. Most recently, he was their senior associate athletics director and deputy executive director. You will find an article about Kevin in this is- sue of Cavalier Corner. We hope you can meet him, his wife, Elizabeth, and their three daughters, Emily, Ella James and Elaina Grace, soon. He'll be on Grounds in early October. The fall also brings our end-of-the-year efforts to wrap up fundraising for 2023. We are grateful for your support this year as we work to fund all 316.6 athletics scholarships, the Cavalier Academic Achievement Fund, sport-specific operational needs, endowments for scholarships and opera- tions, and to complete the Master Plan. We cannot impact UVA Athletics in these ways without your support. Thank you! The sounds of change can be heard as construction of the Football Operations Center, the Olympic Sports Complex, and the Promenade — all parts of the Master Plan — continues. The Football Operations Center is scheduled to open in spring 2024, and the Olympic Sports Complex is scheduled to open in summer 2025. We hope you can stop by and see this progress when you are on Grounds. This December marks our 75th anniversary as VAF was founded in De- cember 1948. We have several initiatives planned to celebrate. There are also milestones coming up for UVA women's athletics. Field hockey, bas- ketball, and tennis became the first three women's varsity sports at UVA 50 years ago. We're planning some exciting celebrations to kick off this 50th anniversary. Be on the lookout for more details coming soon. We are very thankful for all the donors who support Virginia Athletics and hope we see you soon. Sincerely, The Virginia Athletics Foundation 2023 BOARD OF TRUSTEES OFFICERS President Franklin S. Edmonds Jr., Charlottesville, Va. Vice President Rachel Ward Sheridan, McLean, Va.
