OCTOBER 2023 31 Virginia Men's Soccer had several special reasons to host an alumni reunion September 15 and 16. All alumni were invited back for the event-packed weekend which included recognitions to honor anniversary milestones for the 1983 ACC Cham- pionship team, 1993 ACC and NCAA Championship team, and 2003 ACC Championship team. On Friday, VAF hosted an alumni gathering at Starr Hill with former Head Coach Bruce Arena and the current staff led by Head Coach George Gelnovatch. Saturday began with a fun and competitive golf round at Birdwood Golf's The Nest Par-3 Course. Then alumni gathered outside of Klöckner Stadium to tailgate prior to the UVA vs. NC State men's soccer matchup with the championship teams participating in an on-field halftime recognition highlighting their many accom- plishments. Following the game, alumni gathered at Kardinal Hall to cel- ebrate UVA's 3-1 victory which was Coach Gelnovatch's 100th ACC win! This was truly a special weekend to celebrate the camaraderie among the Virginia Men's Soccer family and provide a special opportunity for these milestone anniversary teams to reminisce together. The VAF looks forward to celebrating five anniversary milestone teams next year as part of the annual reunion — 1969 ACC Champs, 1984 regular season ACC Champs, 1994 ACC and NCAA Champs, 2004 ACC Champs, and 2014 NCAA Champs! Head Coach George Gelnovatch shared, "I feel in- credibly privileged to have been a part UVA Men's Soc- cer as a player, assistant coach, and now head coach over the last forty years. During September's alumni weekend, I was fortunate to hear from many who at- tended about the happiness and success that they have experienced in their personal and professional lives since graduating. Listening to them speak and re- flect about their time at UVA only reinforces my belief that UVA athletics has helped shape each of our lives for the better. We all owe a great deal to this wonderful institution." Men's Soccer Reunion Recap
