Dorenkamp covered the eight-kilometer course in Bethlehem, Pa., in a personal- best time of 23:53.7 on Sept. 30, pacing a field of 392 runners and helping Penn State finish fifth in the team competition behind Yale, Wingate, Stony Brook and Lib- erty. A redshirt senior from Lancaster, Pa., Dorenkamp shaved nearly a minute off his previous eight-kilometer PR of 24:44.6. "A very nice win for Evan today over a good field," coach John Gondak said following the race. Maggie MacEachern — Women's Ice Hockey Penn State opened its season by splitting a two-game series against fifth-ranked Northeastern, and MacEach- ern played a key role in the team's performance in Boston. A transfer from Colgate, where she spent her first four seasons of collegiate hockey, MacEachern as- sisted on the decisive goal in Penn State's 2-1 win over the Huskies on Sept. 24. The Brooklin, Ontario, native also blocked 5 shots in the series, which began with a 1-0 victory by the hosts the previous night. For her efforts, MacEachern was named Defensive Player of the Week by the College Hockey America conference. Mac Podraza — Women's Volleyball Podraza, a senior transfer from Ohio State, was named Big Ten Setter of the Week in early October after leading the Nittany Lions to wins over Illinois (3-0, Sept. 29) and 13th-ranked Minnesota (3-1, Sept. 30), both on the road. Against the Illini, Podraza had 32 assists and 9 digs, and she followed with a double-double versus the Gophers, totaling 47 assists and 12 digs. Podraza was a frequent Big Ten hon- oree during her tenure with the Buckeyes, garnering Setter of the Week honors 12 times in three seasons. Her steady leadership helped Penn State bounce back from a 3-0 loss at No. 2 Louisville on Sept. 10. Following the sweep at the hands of the Cardinals, No. 14 Penn State won eight in a row. Kris Shakes — Men's Soccer The fifth-year senior goalkeeper from Parkland, Fla., has been having a spectacular season for the Nittany Lions.
