26 ■ THE WOLFPACKER K BY ETHAN MCDOWELL evin Concepcion enrolled early at NC State, moving onto campus in January. He immediately began carving out a role with the Wolfpack, and the freshman is now earning major accolades as the team's top receiver. Concepcion is a two-time ACC Rookie of the Week and an On3 midseason true freshman All-American. He has proven throughout the season that the moment is never too big. Going into the Wolfpack's bye week, he led the team with 37 recep- tions for 410 yards and 4 touchdowns. The first-year member of the Pack persisted through early-season freshman mistakes and impressed his teammates in the process. "He knows what he's doing out there on the field," sophomore quarterback MJ Morris said following the Wolfpack's 48- 41 victory over Marshall on Oct. 7. "He's never nervous, he knows exactly what he's doing, he knows how to get open, he knows coverages. "That dude is special. I love him." Earning His Place Concepcion's journey to early stardom with the Wolfpack began in the offseason. He immediately stood out to the Wolf- pack fan base during the spring game with a couple of impressive catches. Graduate student tight end Trent Pen- nix, who is in his sixth year with the pro- gram, said he enjoys the mentality his freshman teammate brings to the offense. Pennix can tell Concepcion truly loves football, and that shows up on the field. Once the team started spring workouts, the receiver put his talent and skill on dis- play.
