4 THE WOLVERINE ❱ JUNE/JULY 2024 NFL DRAFT REACTIONS The Michigan Wolverines had a victory lap week- end in Detroit with 13 selections on top of a na- tional title recognition at the event. … AnthonyBroome Nope. Ever since Joe Burrow [Ohio State/LSU], we are using the Buckeye rules, remember? Michigan had 15 (!) players drafted! 14. Erick All [U-M/Iowa] 15. Joe Milton [U-M/Tennessee] AceDeuce J.J. MCarthy to the Vikings [No. 10 pick in the first round]. Yes!! This is where I wanted him to go!!! Best situation for him. Sooooo happy for him. Jakapla Love hearing the pain in [Nick] Saban's voice when talking about J.J. Blue_J TRANSFER PORTAL STIRS THE POT With all this portal activity [sophomore offensive lineman Amir Herring, sophomore cornerback DJ Waller Jr. and freshman linebacker Jeremiah Beas- ley all recently announced their exits] it looks like our new motto is going to be "Those who stay will be champions. Those who leave will be rich." We have to get this NIL stuff figured out!! GoBlue28 The first part of the statement is correct. "Those who stay will be champions." The second part should be "Those who leave won't." These guys buried on the depth chart ain't going to Georgia or OSU. They are going to wannabe's on short money. They surely won't be rich. At least not for the amounts being promised to entice. They may develop into pros, but who's done that better than Michigan in the development of pros over the last five years besides maybe UGA? We should wish the kids well and mean it but focus on those who stay. MCH I get that there was a coaching change and that complicates things. But sometimes I think these kids just get terrible advice. I am a proponent of if a kid isn't 100 percent bought in then it's best for everybody if they move on, but sometimes I think these kids hopping in the portal thinking they are going to get some huge payday that an agent has promised them have delusions of grandeur. Where else can you go where you can compete at the highest level for championships, get pre- pared for the NFL, and get a top-notch education that will set you up for a life beyond football?? Not many places have all three, and the ones that do probably aren't chomping at the bit to get a guy that has not played a snap of college football yet. And if what Michigan has to offer outside of NIL isn't good enough, why sign here in the first place? Gives new life to the phrase "Those Who Stay Will Be Champions," in my opinion. Oh well, at the end of the day certainly no hard feelings to Beasley, and I hope he finds what he's looking for. But the day and age of instant gratification coupled with NIL and the portal can be frustrating and takes some getting used to. As Lloyd Carr once said, "I'm not going to beg anyone to stay at the University of Michigan." Go Blue!
