48 THE WOLVERINE ❱ JUNE/JULY 2024 BY EJ HOLLAND O n300 2025 Michigan quarterback commit Carter Smith got an ex- tended look at his future home in late April, spending Wednesday through Sunday in Ann Arbor for the week of the spring game. Smith visited Michigan for two games in the fall, but this trip gave him a true in-depth look at the program and envi- ronment around campus. "I was able to get around Ann Arbor a little bit more," Smith said. "The first couple of times were really quick trips. I was able to work around down there and get a feel for where I'm going to spend the next four years of my life. "Getting to be around all the new coaches was great. I'm definitely start- ing to build relationships with them. Being able to talk to some of the recruits face-to-face was a lot better than text- ing everybody on social media. "I was able to meet with Ms. Abigail [O'Connor], the nutritionist. It was great to be able to see that side. It opens your eyes to see how lucky we are as student-athletes to have someone like that to take care of our bodies. It was the same thing with [strength and con- ditioning] Coach [Justin] Tress. We're lucky to have them in our corner." This visit also allowed Smith to bond with new Michigan head coach Sher- rone Moore and offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell, who led the way in his recruitment. "I'm going to end up spending four years with them, so it was good to get around them now and get comfort- able with them," Smith said. "I feel a lot more comfortable. It's better than phone calls or stopping by the school. We've been through all the football stuff already.
