TRACKING THE PACK
16 ■ THE WOLFPACKER
■ Postseason Party
The NC State baseball team had already posted
15 comeback wins this season, so it was no sur-
prise when the Wolfpack responded quickly after
giving up a two-run
home run in the second in-
ning of its NCAA Super Regional matchup against
host
Georgia on June 10. Graduate first baseman
Garrett Pennington answered the Bulldogs' shot
with a two-run homer of his own in the top of the
third, and NC State never trailed again.
The Wolfpack's 8-5 triumph in Athens was its
18th victory in 23 games, and it touched off a wild
celebration. NC State had earned a berth in the
Men's College World Series for the fourth time in
program history, and it had done so while battling
back from a series of injuries and illnesses that
could easily have derailed the campaign.
"They've been so unbelievable the last 10 weeks
of the season," coach Elliott Avent said of his play
-
ers. "They do things the right way. They play hard.
They
run hard all the time. They do things the way
they're supposed to do it, on and off the field."
