OCTOBER 2024 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 13 ❱ INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Junior Caleb Jarema is a distance runner who finished third at the Big Ten Championships and 17th at NCAAs in the 3,000-meter steeple- chase in outdoor track and field last season. He also placed 11th at Big Tens in cross country and 14th in the 3,000-meter run at the indoor track and field Big Ten Championships. Here are some things about Jarema that you may not have known: B e s t A s p e c t O f B e i n g Fro m Pinckney, Mich.: "It's kind of a small town, but in the summer it's very much like an up-north, on-the-lake vibe with my friends. It's also really close to Ann Arbor." Favorite Restaurant In Ann Ar- bor: "Stray Hen Cafe." Best Meal He Can Cook By Him- self: "Salmon with some pasta and asparagus. My teammate Nick Foster has taught me a lot about cooking." Favorite Professional Athlete: "[Phoenix Suns guard] Devin Booker. He's very, very adamant about show- ing he's from Michigan. He's very laid back, and he's very into fashion, as well. I like to think I am; I think fashion is really fun." Sport He Enjoys Besides Run- ning: "I really always enjoyed soc- cer the most. A lot of my teammates played soccer in their high school ca- reers, too, so we like to hang out and play. And I'm a massive college football fan." Favorite Movie: "'A Few Good Men' and 'Casino Royale' are my two recent ones, and I've always been a big fan of 'The Sandlot.'" Favorite TV Series: "Season 3 of 'Stranger Things' is the best season of TV ever created, in my opinion." Why He Chose Michigan: "I was actually a big Michigan State fan grow- ing up; both of my parents went there. Sully [head coach Kevin Sullivan] was the first big coach to reach out to me, and I think that was something that was important to me. He saw some- thing in me before other coaches did and reached out to me before I was running times that warranted every single coach that reached out to me. … I ranked everything out and had a list of the things that were the most important to me. Michigan checked every box." W hat He Hopes To Do After Michigan: "My aspirations are 100 percent to try to become a professional runner. But I'm very passionate about sports and advocating for student- athletes. I've started to think that I re- ally want to become an athletic direc- tor. That's my goal, to work in a front office or be an athletic director and work in a high management position for a sports program or team." Favorite Memory At Michigan: "I was blessed to go to the Rose Bowl with some of my teammates. In sports, it's pretty hard for me to have an ex- act moment that sticks out more than other ones in my career. I just enjoy the day-to-day, regardless of if it's prac- tice or traveling to meets." Overall Experience At Michigan: "I feel like I just got to college, and I'm already a junior. When I think about that, it makes me sad, because I am living an experience that I don't want to let go of. I don't want to leave be- ing able to spend every single day with these people that are my best friends. We spend a lot of moments where we say, 'These are the good days, and we know that we're living in them.' My teammates and I don't take it for granted." — Clayton Sayfie ❱  Getting To Know Men's Track And Field And Cross Country Junior Caleb Jarema Jarema finished third at the Big Ten Championships and 17th at NCAAs in the 3,000-steeple- chase in outdoor track and field last season.
