❱ COLSTON LOVELAND HELPS SINK SPARTANS, NAMED MACKEY AWARD SEMIFINALIST Michigan's passing offense has gotten plenty of negative attention this season, but junior tight end Colston Loveland has been an immense bright spot for the group. Through the first 10 games of the season, he led the Wolverines in all receiving categories with 53 catches for 560 yards and 4 touchdowns. His production earned him a spot among the final eight players under consideration for the Mackey Award, which recognizes the best tight end in college football. In Michigan's 24-17 win over rival Michigan State in Ann Arbor on Oct. 26, Loveland recorded 6 catches for 67 yards and a pair of touchdowns plus a two-point conversion. It was the second two-TD game of his career — and second versus Michigan State. Last season, he had 4 receptions for 79 yards and 2 scores in the Wolverines' 49-0 win at MSU. Loveland also became the latest Wolverine to prod at the Spartans with a familiar phrase fol- lowing a postgame skirmish between the teams. "Little bro stay doing little bro things," Loveland said on the Big Ten Network broadcast. "MSU, the little bro. They can do whatever they want. We knew it was going to get chippy. Everything within the confines of the game, we do right, and then after the game, they want to get busy, we'll get busy." Loveland softened his stance during his postgame press conference. "I kind of got carried away there at the end," he told reporters. "Kind of did some shoving and stuff, but you know that's how the rivalry gets. It's all just heat of the moment coming off two losses, really needed this one, so just kind of got excited. We respect every opponent we play, they are a great football team." — Anthony Broome PHOTO BY LON HORWEDEL THE BIG PICTURE
