JUNE/JULY 2026 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 29 2026 BASKETBALL RECRUITING ISSUE are going to take it very, very slow with those guys who have major injuries." Assistant coach and general man- ager Kyle Church dished on the plan for Cosby during an appearance on the "Defend The Block" podcast with Brian Boesch. "[Cosby's addition] is certainly with the future in mind," Church said. "Obvi- ously, [he's] a super-talented prospect and was able to come to college a year early. Coming off the ACL injury, he'll 99 percent redshirt this upcoming season. He's immensely talented and very intel- ligent, and has a really big upside." Church said that expanding rosters to 15 slots helps take on extra players who might need a little more time to accli- mate to the college level. "We saw with Ricky [Liburd] last year, guys that we just identify as having big upsides, whether it's an injury, maybe just a little bit more of a late bloomer, maybe need to develop their body," Church said. "There are all sorts of different things. But just identifying guys that maybe just need a little bit more time and come to a program like this that's going to focus on development. And we're going to invest in those young guys just as much as we do in our starters." Once he's able to hit the floor, the 6-foot-10 wing fills a stat sheet and takes pride in being part of the team. "I'm just a guy who can impact the game at different levels," Cosby told Ri- vals' Jamie Shaw. "Whether that's re- bounding, playing defense, or anything, really, to make my presence felt on the floor. When I am having a good offensive night, just being able to use my grav- ity with the ball, and get my teammates involved. "I feel like there are a lot of things I can do to impact the game. … I just go out there and just play my game; try to make the easiest plays and get my team- mates involved, and just impact the game however I can." Montverde head coach Steve Turner believes that Cosby's skill set and tem- perament fit perfectly in Ann Arbor. "For him to have an opportunity to be a part of that, learning and be a part of that brotherhood, I couldn't be happier for him," Turner told The Wolverine in February. "… He's a kid who's all about others. I think the Michigan fans will fall in love with him." ❏ By The Numbers • Cosby reclassified from the 2027 class, where he ranked as the No. 9 overall prospect, to the 2026 cycle to allow himself to recover behind the scenes from an ACL injury while com- peting with the team.
