30 THE WOLVERINE ❱ JUNE/JULY 2026 2026 BASKETBALL RECRUITING ISSUE BIG SHOOTER Joseph Hartman Will Soon Pose A Deep Threat BY JOHN BORTON M ichigan basketball fired up 998 three-pointers on its way to a national championship in 2026, making 367 of them. It stands to reason that future groups of Wolverines will be getting a long-range boost from new- comer Joseph Hartman. Whereas Michigan's title team con- nected on a very respectable 36.8 per- cent of its three-point shots over the course of that magical season, Hart- man nailed 44 percent of his threes on the Austin Rivers Elite travel team on the Adidas 3SSB circuit last summer. In addition, he averaged 13.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game. At that time, On3's Jamie Shaw noted: "Hartman is a secondary ball-handler, a connecting guard … someone who is able to touch the paint, collapse a de- fense, and make a play while also devel- oping his ability to finish plays on the offensive end." Since then — when he was listed at 6-foot-4 — he's grown to his presently proffered height of 6-6, giving the Wol- verines a guard with considerable length out of The Rock School in Gainesville, Fla. Hartman averaged 14.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game his senior season. As a junior, Hartman paced his team in scoring and drove it to the national quarterfinals.
