JUNE/JULY 2026 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 13 ❱ INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Miles Brown is a two-time first-team All-American (indoor distance medley relay, 2023; indoor DMR, 2026) and has also earned three second-team citations (indoor 800 meters, 2022; outdoor 800 me- ters, 2022; indoor DMR, 2024). This winter, he was named first-team All-Big Ten and set the indoor 600-meter collegiate record (1:14.67) at the Big Ten Championships in February. Here are some things about Brown you may not have known: Best Aspect Of Being From Novi, Mich.: "Our public school sys- tem is really good, and it prepared me well for Michigan and life in general." Favorite Restaurant In Ann Arbor: "It's a tie between Frita Batidos and Mani Osteria. Honorable mentions: The Hen is a good breakfast place, and also an underrated Mexican place is Chela's." Best Meal He Can Cook By Himself: "I cook rigatoni alla vodka a lot." Favorite Professional Athlete: "[Los Angeles Lakers forward] LeB- ron [James] is definitely up there. I'm partial to [former Kenyan runner] David Rudisha, who's an 800 runner because he's the best at the event that I do. He's the world record-holder. I'm also a [Inter Miami star] Lionel Messi fan — the best soccer, fútbol, player of all time. And you can throw [women's tennis player] Serena Williams in there, too." Sport He Enjoys Besides Running: "I'm still a giant soccer fan. I played soccer for 16 or 17 years, and then I started focusing on track. Soccer, when I'm done with track, is probably the sport that I'm go- ing to play bush league in for the rest of my life." Favorite Movie: "'Star Wars Episode III — Revenge of the Sith' or 'Inception.'" Favorite TV Show: "'True Detective' season one." Why He Chose Michigan: "The academics and athletics are second to none, so for the stuff that I was trying to do, I thought that I could get a prestigious degree and get a pre-med education at a good institution that had a lot of research going on. Also, they had a very good track team, so it was the setup. It was also very close to my home, and somewhere where the people that I interacted with on my team and coaching staff were people I was willing to be around for four years. Now, I guess, five years." What He Hopes To Do After Michigan: "I'm starting med school in July. My season will end in June, and then I'm basically going to move to [the East Coast] to start that degree." Favorite Memory At Michigan: "I went to Columbus in 2024 to 'The Game' with my roommate, and we literally sat in the student section with our athlete coats on at Ohio State when the football team beat them when they weren't supposed to upset them that year. That was a pretty hilarious moment. That was one of the times when I was like, 'Man, this is pretty crazy.' And either of the football or basketball [national] championships were pretty cool experi- ences, seeing the whole town of Ann Arbor light up like that. Win- ning a Big Ten championship and the individual collegiate record that I broke indoors was pretty awesome, because a lot of my teammates were pretty excited for me, and my mom was there." Overall Experience At Michigan: "There were ups and downs, but I'm honestly glad for the down portions of it, because it made the ups feel special to me. Overall, it has been pretty awesome. I really couldn't have asked for anything better." — Clayton Sayfie ❱  Getting To Know Track And Field Graduate Student Miles Brown Brown, a five-time All-American at Michigan in indoor and outdoor track, including the 2026 indoor distance medley relay, set the indoor 600- meter collegiate record with a time of 1:14.67 at the Big Ten Championships in February.
