The redshirt senior edge rusher shared Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors with UCLA defensive back Ta'Shawn James after making a high-impact debut in the Nittany Lions' 45-0 rout of Marshall on opening day. Playing only 19 snaps, Bacon tied a career high with 3 tackles for loss, in- cluding a solo sack. He finished with 6 tackles, all in the first half. A native of Lake Mills, Iowa, Bacon helped Penn State hold Marshall to 147 total yards. Haley Burgdorf — Women's Volleyball The freshman outside hitter had a huge night in Penn State's sweep of No. 4 Stanford on Sept. 11 at the Palestra in Philadelphia. Burgdorf, a native of St. Charles, Ill., finished with 10 kills on .450 hitting and added 9 digs and a pair of aces. Her second ace ended the match, completing a 27-25, 25-20, 25-21 victory in the team's first visit to the Palestra in 41 years. Her kills, digs and aces were career highs. The next night, Burgdorf shared the team lead with 6 kills in a sweep of Ohio to improve Penn State to 6-1. Amadou Kone — Men's Soccer Kone was tied for sixth in the Big Ten with 7 points on 3 goals and an assist through the Nittany Lions' first five games. A senior forward from Ottawa, Ontario, Kone scored against Mer- cyhurst, Pitt and Washington, and he assisted on Penn State's only goal in a 3-1 loss to Missouri State on Aug. 23. Kone's goal against Mercyhurst in Penn State's season opener on Aug. 20 was the first of the Rob Dow coaching era and helped the host Nittany Lions overcome an early 2-goal deficit to win, 3-2. Madison Koshko — Women's Golf The freshman from State College enjoyed an outstanding collegiate debut, finishing first in a field of 43 golfers at the inaugural Happy Val- ley Individual, held Sept. 7-8 at the Penn State White Course. Koshko shot back-to-back rounds of 4-under 68 for an 8-under 136. She totaled 9 birdies and only 1 bogey in the 36-hole event, finishing 4 strokes ahead of Maryland's Noa Terroba Toro to claim the championship.
