After redshirting his first year in Ames, Manske figured he would spend one more season backing up starting quarterback Rocco Becht before becoming the team's starter in 2027. A few weeks after arriving in State College, though, that plan encountered a roadblock. Following a workout in the Lasch Building weight room, Joe Re- sendez, Penn State's new director of football sports medicine, pulled Manske into his office. Resendez, who also made the move from Iowa State after just one season with the Cyclones, had some po- tentially life-altering news.
