What you thought about this group was, 'I'm on a team that could win it all, could compete for a national championship, compete for a Big Ten championship.' "If I'm Brandon McCoy, I came here to play with [guards] Elliot Cadeau and Trey McKenney. If I'm Trey McKenney, I tried to help recruit [big men] JP Es- trella and Moustapha Thiam to replace Morez Johnson, Aday Mara and Yaxel Lendeborg. The circle is still the same, for the most part. "Lastly, the program is always bigger than one person. I think that's true in any program, especially any that's suc- cessful. Any corporation that's success- ful, the strength of the program is all the individuals that are part of it. Dusty leaving was disappointing on one hand for all of us, but not in a negative way. It was more like a family member go- ing to the military or something. It was something he wanted to do, and we're so happy for him." The Wolverine: The athletics direc- tor set goals for you to reach to earn a second year, among them either a Final Four or two, the Sweet 16, top four in the Big Ten, others. Does that add pressure to the job, and how do you feel about that? Boynton: "Great question. First, no, it doesn't add pressure. As I've said, this is Michigan. The expectation should be that we're really good. Is it rare to see this? Yeah. But I'm actually pretty good with it, because I'm a guy who would rather know. I'd like for it not to be ambiguous, or 'we'll see how I feel on March 27,' you know? "This is it. It's in black and white, ev- eryone can see it, everyone knows it, so let's go attack it. That's the expecta- tion anyway. I've been doing this long enough that I know that's what's re- quired. "We're in a place that's coming off winning it all and having a hell of a run the last two years. You've got some mo- mentum. You should have an adminis- tration that expects you to keep it going. I'm just very appreciative for the op- portunity, and our board of regents for supporting me.
