OCTOBER 2026 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 59 Men's and Women's Cross Country U-M announced its full-season schedule on Aug. 20 with four events set for the regular season. The Wolverines hit Chicago first for the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invite on Sept. 25, followed by the Nuttycombe Invitational at Wisconsin on Oct. 9. From there, they head to Terre Haute for the Pre-National Invitational at Indiana State on Oct. 16, then close out the regular season at the EMU Fall Classic in Dexter, Mich., on Oct. 23. The women's schedule is similar, though its season officially began Sept. 11 at the Spar- tan Invitational in East Lansing, finishing third of 24 programs with 81 points. The group will also participate in the Loyola, Wisconsin, Indiana State and EMU events. Big Ten Championships for both programs are set for Madison, Wis., on Oct. 30. Michigan State will host the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 13, and the season wraps at the NCAA Cham- pionships on Nov. 21 back in Terre Haute, Ind. Field Hockey No. 13 Michigan beat rival Michi- gan State to open its Big Ten season on Sept. 18, leaving East Lansing with a 2-1 win. Redshirt junior Kelsey Reviello and junior Eva Bernardy scored for the Wolverines, with Re- viello cashing in on the program's second penalty stroke of the season. The rival Spartans' goal in the con- test was their first against the Maize and Blue since the 2022 season. U-M followed it up with a 5-0 win against Central Michigan on Sept. 20, led by senior Juliette Manzur's first career hat trick. It was the second hat trick of the season after senior Esmée de Willigen scored 3 goals in a 4-1 victory over Vermont on Sept. 6. Men's Soccer U-M (2-2-2, 0-1-1 Big Ten) battled back for a 1-1 draw at UCLA on Sept. 19, snapping the Bruins' scoreless first half with a second-half response. UCLA opened the scoring in the 50th minute, but Michigan fought back thanks to freshman Thomas Fra- ser drawing a penalty in the box. Senior Joao Paulo Ramos converted on the chance in the 63rd minute for his first goal of the season. Sophomore Jake Tatch nearly gave U-M the lead late but was denied by the UCLA keeper. Junior Alen Bean made 3 saves to preserve the point for U-M. Both teams traded chances over the final 27 minutes, but the score remained tied. Women's Soccer The Wolverines stunned No. 1 Michigan State, 3-1, on Sept. 20, grabbing the pro- gram's first-ever win against a top-ranked team in the country. After a scoreless first half, led by 7 saves from freshman Malia Zillman, the Spartans broke through with a goal in the 49th minute. But junior Ella Jab- linskey took over from there, scoring twice in 5 minutes to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead. Sophomore Maya Raghunandana capped the effort with a goal, assisted by Jablinskey and senior Lilley Bosley. Jablinskey had 5 points and factored into all 3 goals in the upset win. Volleyball Meredith Martin earned her first career Big Ten weekly honor Sept. 7 after record- ing 74 digs over a four-match stretch. She was named to the Valpo Popcorn Classic All- Tournament Team after posting back-to-back 20-dig performances against Cincinnati and Valparaiso, while committing just 1 recep- tion error in 77 attempts, adding 21 assists, 3 service aces and the first 2 kills of her career. Martin averaged 4.63 digs per set, leading all Big Ten players that week and ranking 50th nationally. She became the fourth Wol- verine to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors in program history and the first since May Pertofsky on Oct. 7, 2019. Men's Golf Junior RJ Arone earned Big Ten Co-Golfer of the Week honors on Sept. 10, splitting the award with Purdue's Jenson Forrester. Arone captured his first collegiate medalist honor, guiding the program to a dominant 25-shot victory at the Island Resort Intercollegiate. He shot a career-low 202 (-14) over 54 holes, tying for the fourth-lowest 54-total in U-M history. The victory followed a career-best tie for third at the season-opening Virtues Intercollegiate and helped the Wol- verines capture back-to-back team titles in the first two events of the fall season. Women's Golf U-M opened its 2026-27 sea- son with a sixth-place finish at the Badger Invitational, posting an 881 (+17) total while battling changing weather over the three-day event. Junior Thomasine Bartholdson fin- ished with a career-low 211 (-5) and a bogey-free final-round 68 (-4), earning a career-best runner-up — nine shots better than her previous best. Sophomore Jaymie Ng tied for 16th with a career-low 220 (+4) for her second career top-20 finish. Freshman Amanda Revuelta tied for 55th. Women's Tennis Sophomore Gabriella Lindgren was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Sept. 16 for the first time in her career after going 3-0 in singles ac- tion and winning her flight at the Kitty Harrison Invitational on Sept. 11-13. It marks the second weekly honor of her career, following Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors last fall. Lindgren dropped just one set across three matches to kick off her sophomore season, picking up wins over An- drea Chacon (UNC Charlotte), 6-3, 6-4; Mar- tina Genis Salas (Virginia), 3-6, 7-5, 6-2; and Marta Leon Jaume (Kansas State), 6-1, 6-3. — Anthony Broome ❱ OLYMPIC SPORTS UPDATE Fall Sports Roundup Women's soccer junior Ella Jablinskey scored twice against No. 1 Michigan State to help lead U-M to a 3-1 upset win Sept. 20.
