Head coach Brian Kelly has counted on senior quarterback Tommy Rees to bail out the Notre Dame
offense each of the last four seasons.

seasons, Rees has been
Notre Dame's lifeboat
every time the team was
on the cusp of sinking.
He has been bailing water again this year. Golson is in academic purgatory, Hendrix's game has
not advanced to where
he can challenge Rees
for the starting role, and
freshman Malik Zaire is
even further behind after
a recent bout with mononucleosis.
"This has not been the
easiest run in four years
here at Notre Dame with
quarterbacks," Kelly said
during preparations for
the Oct. 26 game at Air
Force, with Rees cleared
by the medical staff to
play. "So we're prepared
for it at this point."
Why?
The offense has never
truly gotten off the
ground for Kelly at Notre
Dame, with the Irish
never finishing higher
than 59th in passing efficiency or averaging at
least 30 points per contest
his first three years.
