Under the Dome ✦ Gimme Five Although he was sidelined most of the second half with an injury during Notre Dame's 14‑10 victory against USC Oct. 19, senior quarterback Tommy Rees became the fifth Fighting Irish quarterback in history to "officially" eclipse 6,000 passing yards. With 6,073 yards through the air after the USC game, Rees ranked fifth on the all-time passing yards chart, but there is a caveat. Starting shortly after the turn into the 21st century, bowl stats were included along with regular-season stats. Quarterbacks prior to 2000 such as Steve Beuerlein, Ron Powlus and Rick Mirer did not have their bowl numbers included. Here are the top five official passing yardage totals at Notre Dame: Player (Years)Yardage 1. Brady Quinn (2003-06) 11,762 2. Jimmy Clausen (2007-09) 8,148 3. Ron Powlus (1994-97) 7,602 4. Steve Beuerlein (1983-86) 6,527 5. Tommy Rees (2010-13) 6,073* Note: With bowl games included, Powlus would be at 7,927, Beuerlein at 6,671 and Rick Mirer (1989‑92), who is listed with 5,997, would actually be at 6,411.; * Does not include Oct. 26 game at Air Force. Brighter Days Ahead For Danny Spond Former Irish linebacker Danny Spond is making a fast transition to life after football after another bout with debilitating migraine headaches robbed him of his senior year on the field. Spond was hospitalized three days into Notre Dame's training camp
