After the game, Smith called his visit "perfect," and the Irish continue to sit in great shape with him. He and his family are looking for a school with a strong Catholic background, a quality academic environment and a winning football tradition. Notre Dame meets all his criteria. 247Sports ranks Smith as the No. 27 overall recruit in the nation, the No. 3 athlete in the country and the No. 4 player in California. Long Beach (Calif.) Poly five• Things are trending up with Crete, Ill., four-star linebacker Nyles star safety John Smith, the Morgan after his visit to Notre Dame. Heading into his visit for the USC country's No. 3 athlete and game Oct. 19, the Fighting Irish were considered a long shot to land the No. 27 overall prospect nationlocal recruit, but that seems to have changed. The 6-3, 230-pounder ally according to 247Sports, spent plenty of time with defensive coordinator Bob Diaco and used enjoyed his visit to South Bend the words "eye opening" and "informative" to describe their one-on- the weekend of Oct. 18-20. photo courtesy 247sports one conversation. Look for the Crete-Monee high school standout to choose from Notre Dame, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt come National Signing Day. 247Sports ranks Morgan as the No. 85 recruit in the country, the No. 4 inside linebacker in the land and the No. 3 player in Illinois. • If there was one player that fans believed was just taking a free trip to Notre Dame to see USC play, most would have said that it was Bellflower, Calif., four-star offensive guard Damian Mama. That couldn't be further from the truth. Irish wide receivers coach Mike Denbrock has made the 6-4, 360-pound prospect a top priority, and Mama had called his official visit "unreal." Notre Dame is in great shape with California natives John Smith and Tyler Luatua, two of Mama's closest friends, and all three could end up playing ball in South Bend. 247Sports ranks Mama as the No. 38 player in the nation, the No. 2 offensive guard in the country and the No. 5 prospect in California. — Tom Loy Follow @TomLoy247 on Twitter.
