After four years, he still talks with some of his favorite mentors from Hicksville (N.Y.) High School. Perhaps his greatest mentor, however, is his father, Charles, a physical education teacher at Hicksville Middle School. Although Arnone was never in his father's class, he saw how Charles interacted with students — and soon decided he wanted to follow in his footsteps. "It's something that really fits my personality," Arnone said. "I have looked up to teachers and coaches throughout my athletic and academic career, and it helped shape me into the person I am today. "I wouldn't be where I am without them. I want to be a part of young peoples' lives and help shape and mentor them, and the best way I can do that is physical education." Arnone, a physical education major with a minor in health in the School of Kinesiology, would love to work with kids, but he believes his true calling is coaching. And he'd like to do it at the collegiate level. Since Michigan head coach Chaka Daley arrived in Ann Arbor before the 2012 season, Arnone has built a close-knit relationship with him. The two often talk about coaching and what Arnone needs to do to make his dream become a reality. "He has talked to me about opportunities that would be there for me if I choose to go down the coaching route," Arnone Arnone, a physical education major with a minor in health in the School of Kinesiology, would love to work with kids, but he believes his true calling is coaching. photo courtesy michigan athletic media relations
