michigan recruiting In-State Schools Could Receive Boost For Malik McDowell U -M's coaching staff has focused heavily on winning the state of Michigan when it comes to recruiting. The top uncommitted recruit in the state of Michigan is Southfield defensive end Malik McDowell. The 6‑6, 292-pounder is rated as a four-star talent, the No. 40 overall senior in the country and the No. 4 strongside defensive end nationally by Rivals.com. He holds offers from Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State, along with a host of national programs. McDowell had initially planned to use all of his five allotted official visits to see some of those programs farther away from his home in southeast Michigan. However, that itinerary is now in flux — and it could be good news for the Wolverines and Spartans. "I want to wait until after the season [to take the visits]," McDowell explained. "I'm still going to try to make it down to Florida over Thanksgiving weekend. I don't know right now just because things are real busy. [In addition to Florida, LSU and Alabama], I don't really have a last two visits planned; I might save the last two for some in-state schools, but I might go out of state, I don't really know."
