michigan football Student-Athlete Of The Month: Fifth-Year Senior Wide Receiver Joe Reynolds These days, fifth-year senior wide receiver Joe Reynolds has a light course load. Having already finished the vast bulk of his degree, studying the Spanish language, Reynolds has allowed himself to really focus on football in his final fall semester in Ann Arbor. He's taking a one-credit Reynolds, a Spanish major, class about theory of the existence of alien life, and plans to pursue a music career with former Michigan walkwhether such a thing could ever be proved. But Reynolds put in a lot of hard work to be able on quarterback Jack Kennedy after he graduates. to take a light load this semester. photo by per kjeldsen When he was a freshman at Rochester (Mich.) Adams, Reynolds went on a mission trip to Costa Rica with his church, where he was immediately intrigued by the Spanish language. "Math and science never really clicked with me, but Spanish really did," Reynolds said. "I love music, and it's a very musical language to me. "The trip was pretty incredible. That was when I really started to get serious about Spanish, and I've studied it ever since." Reynolds tested out of all the introductory and grammatical Spanish classes when he first arrived in Ann Arbor, allowing him to jump right into the heavier coursework, like reading Spanish literature and learning about the culture. With the end of his time at Michigan quickly approaching, Reynolds is considering two different career paths. "I have looked into law enforcement, the FBI and CIA," he said. "Being a field agent really seems like something I'd like to do. I have met with a couple people from both agencies, and it's a way to stay active. I don't think I'd do well sitting at a desk. I want to be active. In the FBI and CIA, every day is different, and there are a lot of things to do." But he will give music — his first love — a shot. Reynolds and former Michigan walk-on quarterback Jack Kennedy, who is Reynolds' current roommate, began playing music under the name JDK And Rey a little over a year ago. They released a video from their song "Away" July 10, 2012. "When you start something, you just have to see what the world thinks of it," Reynolds said. "That was our tester last summer, and people really liked it." Since then, the duo has received more than 100,000 views on their YouTube page (http://www.youtube.com/jdkandrey). "That kind of blows our minds, because it's just built organically," Reynolds said.
