michigan recruiting McDowell on a visit is nothing new to the coaches in Ann Arbor and East Lansing. He's been to each campus several times, including a game visit to each already this fall. However, the chance to host him on the school's own dime for an official, rather than an unofficial, visit that is paid for by the prospect is another chance to impress. There are friendly voices to Michigan in McDowell's recruitment. Not only has the prospect himself — and his entire family — rooted for Michigan his entire life, one of his teammates, three-star defensive end Lawrence Marshall, is committed to the Wolverines' 2014 class. "He's playing it easy," McDowell said with a chuckle. "He's doing pretty much the same thing he's always done. He says he knows where I'm going, so he's pretty much stating that I'm going to Michigan." Should Marshall's prediction come to fruition, McDowell would become the fourth top-10 in-state player (and fifth Michigander overall) committed to the Maize and Blue. He's rated as the second-best prospect in the state, behind only Ohio State commit Damon Webb of Cass Tech in Detroit. Michigan has not reeled in the state's top player since 2009, when Cass Tech defensive tackle William Campbell selected the Wolverines.
