Goalie Steve Racine Out With A Groin Injury Sophomore Steve Racine had turned aside 18 shots in a 1‑1 game against New Hampshire Oct. 18 when he went down into position to stop his 19th shot. Unfortunately, this time, something went amiss and Racine pulled his groin, forcing him to the bench. "It's a weird thing. I watched the replay and it wasn't like he really had to spread eagle, but it is what it is," head coach Red Berenson said. "It's not a serious injury, but for a goalie, the way they go down all the time, it's more serious than for a reg‑ ular skater." Berenson said Racine would be week to week, and he sat out the Wol‑ verines' home games against Bos‑ ton University Oct. 25 and UMassLowell Oct. 26. It is poor timing for a player that had a 2.23 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage in his first three games. "Steve has really stepped up and filled a role that we needed him to fill," senior captain Mac Bennett said prior to the injury. "He was a little bit shaky last year, and then he caught fire towards the end of last year. You can tell he's still riding it and we need him to. If you want to win in college hockey, you need to have a hot goalie. "We're confident in him. He's mak‑ ing the saves he needs to make."
